Carbon Footprinting Approach for Indian Products

India needs to take measures to promote production and consumption of low carbon goods and services to demonstrate its commitment to combat climate change. An innovative approach to Product Carbon Footprinting (PCF) is therefore necessary.

In response to above, was undertaken with the support of International Green Purchasing Network (IGPN) and Japan Fund for Global Environment (JFGE). This study has resulted into a new methodology for PCF as relevant to developing countries such as India. The methodology focuses on encouraging low carbon practices throughout the life cycle of a product. Based on the attainment with these practices, a rating or a label such as High, Medium and Low is attached. An example of cotton t-shirt was adopted to demonstrate the proposed PCF framework.
